The Tesfa Sponsorship Trust UK was established on the basis of a long-term relationship between a group of sponsors from the UK and two community-based organisations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. For over 15 years a sponsorship scheme has been running effectively to sponsor both children and elderly people within these communities, as well as to provide capital grants for maintaining and improving facilities. The Tesfa Sponsorship Trust was established as an entity in 2016 to put the scheme on a secure footing for the future, and registered with the UK’s Charity Commission in February 2018.
Our mission statement, as shown on our Trust Deed, is ‘The prevention or relief of poverty in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by providing: grants, items and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty.’ We currently put this into practice through partnership with two community-run NGOs in Addis Ababa, called AHISDO and CBISDO. AHISDO have their own website: http://ahisdoethiopia.org/
We currently facilitate the sponsorship of just over 200 children and 16 elderly people.
